highlands

Friday, we went to visit a school for the kids for when they start Kindergarten. It is called Highlands International and is a Christian school K-12. It is on the American schedule and is in English for most subjects. It is pretty new, about four years old, and only has like 125 kids total. It is built in an old brick factory...hence the tall chimney. The teachers come mostly from the US and are on two year contracts, but most stay for more. We saw some classes on the playground and they were talking in spanish...about half the kids are Bolivian so the kids will still get their spanish fill. It's good because if we ever move back, they'll be able to pick up right where they are...same schedule and if the graduate from Highlands, they get a US diploma. It is supposed to be finding a new location in like 5 years...there are schools with better infrastructure here, but the atmosphere was so much better at Highlands...they seemed like a big family. The one picture is of a ropes course for the high school kids...and I saw they have an extreme sports club for middle school and up...perfect for Joaquin! Juan Pablo REALLY wanted to do the ropes course!! They have a website www.highlandsinternational.org which has better information and better pictures, too!
